The FC Wacker Gera was a football club from the Thuringian city of Gera . He qualified several times for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .

history

The FC Wacker Gera was founded 1910th With the creation of the Gauliga Osterland in 1923 by the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV), the club played first-class from the 1923/24 season . Already in the first season Gera was able to secure the Gaume championship, connected with this was the qualification for the Central German soccer championship. After a clear 0: 6 defeat against 1. SV Jena , Gera was eliminated in the first round. After the local rival SpVgg 1904 Gera secured victory in the Osterland-Gau in the following season , Wacker Gera then dominated the Gauliga and was able to win the Gaume Championship four times by 1929. The greatest success in the Central German football finals was reaching the semi-finals in 1927/28 . After victories over SpVgg 1907 Meerane (6: 3), SV 01 Gotha (2: 1) and Plauener SuBC (5: 2), Gera met FC Wacker Halle on April 15, 1928 . The semi-final game was lost 4-0, Gera was eliminated while Halle was later able to secure the Central German soccer championship.

At the beginning of the 1930s the club fell behind 1. FC Greiz and FC Thuringia Weida in the Gauliga , but was still able to achieve top positions and was the strongest football club in Gera. In 1932/33 the Gaume Championship could be won for the last time, but in the subsequent Central German final, Gera was eliminated in the second round against SV 08 Steinach .

In the course of the Gleichschaltung , the VMBV and, consequently, the Gauliga Osterland were dissolved a few months after the Nazis came to power in 1933. The clubs were classified in the football district Mitte, but were not given a starting place for the first-class Gauliga Mitte, which was introduced from 1933 . Wacker Gera was sorted into the second-class district class Thuringia . While local rivals SpVgg in 1904 Gera merged with SC Concordia Gera-Reuss to form 1. SV Gera 04 and made it to the Gauliga at the end of the 1930s, Wacker Gera remained in the second division and was relegated to the Osterland district in 1938/39 . In 1945 the association was dissolved.
