Wadendorf is a district of the town of Salzfurtkapelle within the town of Zörbig in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district ( Saxony-Anhalt ). Wadendorf is one of the 18 places that together make up the city of Zörbig.

geography

Wadendorf is one of the few Anhalt towns south of the Fuhne .

history

Wadendorf was founded around 1600 by the Löberitz resident Lorenz Schilling. A salt road crossed the Fuhne in a ford between the town and Salzfurt north of the Fuhne. In contrast to its neighboring towns, which like Wadendorf were located south of the Fuhne, the town belonged to Anhalt until 1942 ( Köthen district or Dessau-Köthen). It was surrounded by Electoral Saxon territory until 1815 , and since then by Prussian territory. Only in the north was Wadendorf connected to the Anhalt region beyond the Fuhne via a small stretch of land.

As part of an area exchange, Wadendorf came on April 1, 1942 from the Anhalt district of Dessau-Köthen to the Prussian district of Bitterfeld in the province of Saxony . Wadendorf was incorporated into the parish of Salzfurtkapelle on July 1, 1950. On March 1, 2004, the former municipality of Salzfurtkapelle with its district Wadendorf was incorporated as a locality into the new unified municipality of Zörbig. The local council has been a local council since March 1, 2004.

religion

The Wadendorfer Church, built in 1735, is closely related to its membership in the Principality of Anhalt-Dessau . After the five sons of Prince Leopold II. Maximilian safely left the campaign against France under Louis XV. returned, the Princely House had churches built in several small towns. Since the Wadendorfer church was dedicated to the five sons of the prince, it was named "Five Brothers Church". After the original building had to be demolished in 1828 due to dilapidation, the church, which still exists today, was built. Only the bell from 1735 remains from the old church. In 1986 the building was renovated.
