Werben is a district of the village of Stumsdorf within the town of Zörbig in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district ( Saxony-Anhalt ). Werben is one of the 18 places that together make up the city of Zörbig.

geography

Werben is located southwest of the center of Zörbig an der Riede . The village is located in the south of Saxony-Anhalt between Bitterfeld and Köthen .

history

Like its neighboring town of Stumsdorf, Werben belonged to the Zörbig district of Saxony until 1815 . Only a few free yards in the village belonged to the Petersberg office , which the Saxon Elector Augustus the Strong sold with all accessories to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1697 . The Freihöfe now belonged to the Prussian Saalkreis in the Duchy of Magdeburg . Through the Peace of Tilsit , the Freihöfe came to the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and were incorporated into the canton Löbejün , which was located in the Halle district of the Saale department . After the defeat of Napoléon and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1813, the Prussian king and his "old provinces" also took possession of the Saalkreis and the Freihöfe in Werben again.

The decisions of the Congress of Vienna came in 1815 also associated with the Royal Saxon Office Zörbig places advertising and Stumsdorf to Prussia, which the common with the free courts in 1816 County Bitterfeld in the administrative district of Merseburg of the province of Saxony was allocated to which it belonged until 1944 .

Werben was incorporated into Stumsdorf on April 1, 1974. On March 1, 2004, the former municipality of Stumsdorf with its district of Werben was incorporated as a locality into the new unified municipality of Zörbig.
