history

At the site of today Cösitz a Sorbian was 750 Wallenburg built. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 839, when the Saxons conquered it. In 1370 the place was the ancestral seat of the noble von Kositz family, the family remained the owner of the estate until the middle of the 16th century. Then it went to the gentlemen von dem Bussche-Lohe , who owned it until 1945. In the middle of the 19th century they created an English landscape park around the castle. On May 16, 1935, the Cösitz volunteer fire brigade was founded.

Cösitz and today's district of Priesdorf, both north of the Fuhne , have historically always belonged to Anhalt, unlike Zörbig .

Incorporation

Cösitz and Priesdorf belonged to the district of Köthen until 2004 . On January 1, 2005, Cösitz and Priesdorf were incorporated across the district border to Zörbig and belonged to the Bitterfeld district until the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district was formed .

Attractions

The Cösitzer Teich was created around 1936 when the site subsided due to the underground mining of lignite.

Cösitz Church

The Cösitzer church was built in 1522. The church bell was cast around or before 1300, a greeting on the bell dates back to 1200. In 1856 the noble mansion was rebuilt, and in 1882 the church tower was replaced by a new one made of red bricks. The interior of the church was also redesigned around 1882. So the portal of the church tower became the main entrance, a new baptismal font and a new marble altar were erected. In 1885 a new gallery, new stalls, a new pulpit and an organ , which was made by Rühlmann from Zörbig, followed. In 1883 a new bell was donated, but this had to be melted down during the First World War . In the church there is a more than 500 year old 3-winged altar of Mary with 15 carved figures of saints. Next to the church is a boulder that serves as a memorial to the dead of the Second World War .

According to the inscription in the tower portal, today's castle was built in 1891 by Hubert Freiherr von dem Bussche-Lohe and Janette von Wuthenau . The previous building has not been preserved and was probably at the entrance to Cösitz. In 1877 the wall of the Wallburg was demolished. This enabled an east wing to be added to the house and a park to be created. In 1937 the west wing was added.

A beech with a trunk diameter of six meters and a crown diameter of 38 meters is one of the thickest beeches in Germany .
