Schrenz is a village in the town of Zörbig in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district ( Saxony-Anhalt ). It consists of the districts Schrenz, Siegelsdorf and Rieda . These are three of the 18 places that together make up the city of Zörbig.

geography

The village of Schrenz with Rieda and Siegeldorf is located southwest of the center of Zörbig an der Riede . It is located in the south of Saxony-Anhalt between Bitterfeld and Köthen .

history

Schrenz was first mentioned in a document as Zribenz in 1012 . At that time the place was in the Slavic Gau Nelstice . Schrenz, like its neighboring towns of Siegelsdorf and Rieda, belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office of Zörbig until 1815 .

A church in Schrenz could have been built as early as the 12th century. During this time, under Wiprecht von Groitzsch, the Germanic tribes settled and the first churches emerged. Until the Reformation the church belonged to the diocese of Merseburg . Lead-glazed long windows were installed in the 17th century. In 1754 large parts of the church were rebuilt. The bells were installed in 1875.

Some free yards in the village belonged to the Petersberg office , which the Saxon Elector Augustus the Strong sold with all accessories in 1697 to Brandenburg-Prussia . The Freihöfe now belonged to the Prussian Saalkreis in the Duchy of Magdeburg . Through the Peace of Tilsit , the Freihöfe came to the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and were incorporated into the canton Löbejün , which was located in the Halle district of the Saale department . After the defeat of Napoleon and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1813, the Prussian king and his "old provinces" also took possession of the Saalkreis and the Freihöfe in Schrenz again.

As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the places Schrenz, Siegelsdorf and Rieda belonging to the royal Saxon office of Zörbig came to Prussia, which, together with the Freihöfe , were allocated to the district of Bitterfeld in the administrative district of Merseburg in the province of Saxony in 1816.

On September 30, 1928, the place Schrenzsiegelsdorf was created by amalgamating the communities and manor districts Schrenz and Siegelsdorf. Schrenzsiegelsdorf and Rieda merged to form the municipality of Schrenz on July 1, 1950. On March 1, 2004, this was incorporated into the new unified municipality of Zörbig.

Culture

In 1972 the parish of Rieda-Schrenz decided to close down the Schrenz church. Today the Förderverein Kirche Schrenz und Umgebung e. V. around the preservation and improvement of the building structure of the church ruin Schrenz with the long-term goal of a renewed, regular use.
