The Walchensee class is a series of four fuel transporters Class 703 for the supply of warships in the harbor and in coastal waters as well as for the transport of supplies between depots and other supply facilities of the German Navy / Deutsche Marine have been built.
General
As part of the auxiliary ship program of 1959 , four “fuel transporters, small” (designation according to the list of ship numbers ) were commissioned from the Lindenau shipyard in Kiel in 1964 . The hull is made of steel and divided into eight compartments by seven bulkheads . The equipment includes magnetic self protection , a 3- t - derrick and equipment for underway replenishment to port and to starboard.
The ships are named after lakes in Germany .

- 703/01 Walchensee (A 1424)
The type ship of this class was initially put into service for the command of the supply ships and with its home base in Flensburg-Mürwik . On October 1, 1967, there was a change of subordination to the newly established 1st supply squadron and on April 1, 1997 to the supply squadron . The Walchensee was the last ship to leave the disbanded naval base in Flensburg on October 12, 1998 . It was then stationed at the Kiel naval base and, after being decommissioned, hung up in Wilhelmshaven .
In 2005 the ship was initially sold to Denmark via VEBEG and later registered in Nigeria as a tanker Walchensee with IMO number 9027855 and callsign 5NHYS. The ship was scrapped in 2010 .
- 703/02 Ammersee (A 1425)
The commissioning took place for the supply flotilla with home base in Olpenitz . Analogous to the Walchensee , the Ammersee was subordinated to the 1st supply squadron and the baggage squadron. After the naval base in Olpenitz was closed, the ship was stationed in Kiel from January 2006. Since its decommissioning in December 2015, the Ammersee has been placed in the Kiel Naval Arsenal.
- 703/03 Tegernsee (A 1426)
The Tegernsee was also put into service for the supply flotilla. On October 1, 1967, the transfer to the 2nd supply squadron and on April 1, 1997 to the supply squadron took place. The Tegernsee was stationed in Wilhelmshaven without interruption from its commissioning to decommissioning. Since it was decommissioned in December 2015, it has been placed in the Wilhelmshaven naval arsenal.
- 703/04 Westensee (A 1427)
The last ship in the series was immediately put into service for the second supply squadron that had been set up shortly before and with its home base in Emden . From July 1969, the Westensee was stationed in Wilhelmshaven and from April 1997 (subordinate to the Trossgeschwader) in Warnemünde .
After it was decommissioned, it was launched together with ex- Walchensee in Wilhelmshaven and was also sold to Denmark in 2005 via VEBEG. In the summer of 2009 the ship was broken up at the Reitsma Recycling BV scrapping yard in Kootstertille .
