Walter Fröhlich

Walter Fröhlich (also Wafrö , pseudonym Urban Klingele , born January 9, 1927 in Radolfzell ; † November 7, 2013 in Singen ) was a German journalist, writer, musician and photographer. He was best known as a dialect author in the Bodenseealemannic dialect of the area around Constance and Hegau as well as a carnival maker , cabaret artist and columnist. Walter Fröhlich used his pseudonym Urban Klingele for his column in the Singener Wochenblatt . The name wafrö , which he liked to use, was his old editorial abbreviation in the newspaper.

Walter Fröhlich grew up in Konstanz for the first 24 years and was also musically active there - e.g. B. in the old-time jazz bands around the dentist Dr. Werner Greiner - and moved to Singen in the mid-1960s, where he then lived for over 50 years. He completed an apprenticeship in banking, but was drafted into military service and was taken prisoner. After the Second World War , after a traineeship, he became editor of the Deutsche Bodensee-Zeitung in Konstanz. From 1952 until he retired, he worked for the Alusuisse company in Singen in advertising, as a photographer and as an editor for the company newspaper Arbeitskamerad . He died of a heart attack in 2013 and is buried in the forest cemetery in Singen.

Alemannic writer

Cheerful has long been in the carnival active in singing, among other things, as a poet and Büttenredner. He founded the Singen Fool's Mirror. From 1957 to 1962 he composed and set to music for the respective carnival motto of the Poppelezunft in Singen songs in Alemannic language, which are still present in the Singen carnival.

Towards the end of the 1950s he began to write a dialect column every week in the Schwarzwälder Bote . 15 years later he retired from Singen. From 1985 to 2010 he took up the weekly column in the Singener Wochenblatt again. His book-writing began with subtle notes on a book with woodcuts about Carnival and published his columns from the weekly newspaper separately. After that he published a whole series of books with poems and ironic short texts on everyday topics in Alemannic. In addition, he published several articles on dialect and personalities from the Lake Constance area, including in the Singener Jahrbuch and the Konstanzer Almanach . He was on the road with readings and lectures on the subject of dialect beyond the Lake Constance area.

Alemannic wisdom

The main themes of Wafrö are taken from everyday life. He liked to deal with the weaknesses of himself and his fellow human beings or with undesirable developments in modern society in a humorous and ironic way. The dialect he chose for his texts also played a major role. He wanted to promote and preserve the dialect. This is how his word collections came about (e.g. Alemannic for beginners ).

Fast night

He wrote the carnival song S 'goht degege for the Singen Poppele Guild . He was honorary councilor of the Poppelezunft Singen, Ehrenblätz of the Blätzlebuebe Konstanz, lord of the castle of Narrengsellschft Niederburg and 1st holder of the Alefanz Order of the Langenstein Carnival Museum. He was a ghostwriter and editor for carnival speeches and invented the Singener Narrenspiegel in 1957. He made sharp hand-made speeches.

Happy was the lord of the castle in Constance with the Niederburg Narrengesellschaft, honor elephant with the elephants and Ehrenblätz with the Blätzlebuebe.

Awards

He received several awards for his services to the Alemannic dialect.

estate

Part of his books, texts and black and white negatives went to the Singen city archive. The estate is contained in more than 69 folders. They are photographs from the cover of the works magazine Arbeitskamerad , the glosses Wafrö's spicy weekly ragout , the hand-made speeches for the carnival and his verses from dialect poetry.
