Walter Löhr

Walter Löhr (born September 27, 1911 in Darmstadt ; † October 4, 1976 there ) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Darmstadt, Löhr studied economics from 1932 to 1937 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1938 he received his doctorate on the subject: “The performance principle in wage structuring”. After a brief activity at the regional statistical office in Darmstadt, he worked in the foreign exchange office from 1938 to 1940. From 1940 to 1945 he was in Berlin at the Reich Office for Economic Development and General Manager for special issues relating to chemical production. After the Second World War , in 1945/46 he was deputy head of the Agriculture Office of the Darmstadt District President . From 1946 he was managing director of the Association of the Chemical Industry, first in Frankfurt and later in Bonn . In 1954 he became a lecturer at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , and in 1960 a business consultant and industrial director ( Röchling Völklingen ). 1963 honorary professor at the University of Mainz. 1969 Honorary doctorate from the University of Cebu (Philippines). 1972 Director of the Academy of Nations and Cultures in St. Augustin near Bonn.

Political party

Before 1945 Walter Löhr was a member of the NSDAP . After the Second World War, Löhr was a member of the SPD , and then switched to the CDU in 1947. Since the 1960s he was treasurer of the Hessian regional association.

MP

Löhr was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1972. From November 5, 1959 to February 14, 1973 he was also a member of the European Parliament .

Flick scandal

On the occasion of a donation request from the Steyler Father Josef Schröder, at that time managing director of Soverdia , he proposed a system for tax evasion : Soverdia should issue tax-deductible receipts in five times the amount of the donation or transfer 80 percent of the donation amount back via foreign accounts. Löhr recruited additional donors and kept ten percent of the donation amount for himself. By discovering this system, the tax investigator Klaus Förster came across further donations from the Flick group , which ultimately triggered the Flick affair .
