Walter Timmling
Walter Timmling (born July 23, 1897 in Grimma , † June 14, 1948 in Pirna ) was a German art historian and painter . He is considered a representative of the New Objectivity .
Life
Walter Timmling studied art history with Paul Frankl in Halle and received his doctorate in 1924 . He was a student of Otto Dix at the Dresden Art Academy . He became known for his two reference works, Art History and Art History and The Art of Modern Literature. An impartial leader .
Timmling's subjects as a painter were boys, flowers, the mentally ill, landscapes, angels. In 1938 Walter Timmling was sentenced to five years in prison and subsequent preventive detention for pederasty . During this time a number of pictures were created with the subjects of the mentally ill and angels. In 1945 the majority of his previous pictures in his studio in Dresden were destroyed by the bombing. From 1946 to 1948 he lived and worked in Weesenstein . He was married to the art historian Charlotte Timmling.
