Walter Johann Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand Arnold von Heinemann (born January 27, 1858 in Braunschweig , † August 31, 1928 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Walter was the son of the financial adviser and butterfly researcher Hermann von Heinemann (1812–1871) and his wife Theodore, née Gerstell.

Military career

Heinemann joined the 1st Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 74 of the Prussian Army on October 1, 1876 and became a second lieutenant on February 14, 1878 . From October 1, 1887, Heinemann attended the War Academy in Berlin and in mid-November 1887 advanced to prime lieutenant . On April 1, 1898, he became a major and then on October 18, 1900, he joined the staff of the 37th Division in Allenstein . On January 27, 1905, he became a lieutenant colonel and in April joined the General Staff in Berlin. On April 10, 1906, he became chief of staff of the military governor of Thorn Fortress . Promoted to colonel on April 14, 1907 , Heinemann became commander of the 7th Thuringian Infantry Regiment 96 in Gera on March 22, 1910 . Promoted to major general on April 21, 1911 , he also took over the leadership of the 76th Infantry Brigade in Erfurt. On January 6, 1914, Heinemann was initially commissioned to lead the 34th Division in Metz and a few weeks later on January 27, 1914, he was promoted to Lieutenant General as the commander of this large unit .

Shortly after the start of the First World War , his division fought on August 25, 1914 in the Association of the XVI. Army Corps at the Battle of Longwy . On April 25, 1916, he gave up the divisional command and on August 6, 1916, he was Commanding General of the Deputy General Command of the VI. Army Corps in Wroclaw.

family

Heinemann married Mila Jenna Cornelius, who was born in Moscow on November 12, 1895 . Her daughter Ursula married the major general and military replacement inspector Georg von Prondzynski in 1925 .
