Washington Roberto Mariano da Silva ( Washington or Washington da Silva for short ; born June 19, 1985 in Cataguases , MG ) is a Brazilian football player in the position of a striker . He currently plays in the SuperLiga with FK Partizan Belgrade .

Career

Career start at home

Born in the state of Minas Gerais, Washington only began his active football career at the age of 16 when he joined the youth team of CR Vasco da Gama in the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro in 2001 . Up until 2003, he was mainly active in the young generation, and in the same year he moved to CA Metropolitano in Blumenau, Brazil . At the club, which was only founded in 2002, he came to his missions until 2005 in the adult team with play in the Campeonato Catarinense de Futebol , the national championship of Santa Catarina . From 2005 to 2006, the burly attacker was in the professional squad of Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte , whose professional team is represented in the Série A , the top division in Brazilian football.

After a rather less successful time in the big city of Belo Horizonte , another change from Washington made itself felt in 2006. So he transferred to the northeast coast of Brazil, where he was signed by CRB Maceió , whose men's team was still playing in the second-rate Série B at the time. After he only came to a few championship appearances in Maceió , the 2.02 m tall striker moved back to CA Metropolitano in 2007, where he scored one goal in the same season. Immediately after his league appearance at Metropolitano, the committed attacker changed again.

Change to Europe

This time, however, he moved to Europe, where he signed a professional contract with Makedonija Skopje in the highest Macedonian football league, the Prva liga , for the summer break before the 2008/09 season . Halfway through the season, Washington was of MacedonianFootball.com ahead of other nominees such as Armend Alimi , César Roberto de Brito , Hristijan Kirovski and Gligor Gligorov , the MVP voted the league. The main reason for this was the six goals and four assists that he had achieved up to this point. In the league, the 23-year-old Brazilian caused the greatest positive surprise with his good performance alongside the 16-year-old Dino Najdovski . After the team ranked in the winter break of the 2008/09 season with seven points ahead of the runner-up in first place, Washington was one of the main contributors to this success. But after only 17 games and a goal balance of seven goals, the young Brazilian left the club to look for new challenges in Serbia . By the end of the season, Makedonija Skopje won the Macedonian league title without Washington's participation, the first in their almost 80-year club history.

Transfer to Partizan

After a successful appearance in the highest Macedonian league, the tall striker came to the successful FK Partizan Belgrade after only seven months in January 2009, whose scouts have been watching him over the past few months. With the Serbs he signed a long-term contract until January 2013. From his teammate and compatriot Juliano Roberto Antonello , called Juca , he was nicknamed , which was derived from an actor in a Brazilian soap opera ; Another nickname of the offensive player is Wash . He made his debut on February 28, 2009 in a 1-1 home draw in the Eternal Derby against FK Red Star Belgrade , when he came on the pitch in the 80th minute for Adem Ljajić .

At the end of the 2008/09 season , the Brazilian was able to record twelve league appearances and four goals. With the team he celebrated in addition to the championship title and the receipt of the Lav Kup 2008/09 , after the FK Sevojno was beaten 3-0 in the final. At Partizan, Washington is characterized above all by its good ball handling and its good preparatory work. In addition, due to his size, he is often found on the defensive, where he can shine with his headball strength. After the good successes in the 2008/09 season, the offensive team started into an equally successful 2009/10 season .

After Partizan Belgrade because of the league title for the second qualifying round of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League was set and there the Welsh Rhyl FC clearly with 12: outclassed 0 (off-and-away), the Brazilians came in the second leg of the third qualifying round to his debut in competition. Although the team won the game in the end thanks to a goal from Almami Moreira , whose mother had died the night before, the team was eliminated from the current competition due to the poorer goal difference (1: 2 from return leg) and came in instead the UEFA Europa League of the 2009/10 season . After his Champions League qualification, the striker did not appear in a competitive game for the club from the Serbian capital Belgrade until early November 2009 .

Only on November 5, 2009, the "giant" made his debut in the Europa League after surviving the play-off phase , when he came into play in the group game of Group J in the 50th minute for Lamine Diarra and 16 minutes later after some header chances with a head to the 2: 3 connection hit. In the end, the Belgrade team lost 2: 4. However, FK Partizan did not get further than the group stage, after six games they were bottom of the group with only three points. In the league, things did not go particularly well for the center forward either, he was substituted on December 12th, 2009 in a game against FK Mladi Radnik in the 57th minute and after only 18 minutes of playing time he was replaced again due to injury and a lot over months . Then he came back to his next short championship campaign in April 2010. Of the seven league appearances that the 24-year-old has made to date (May 18, 2010), all were short appearances of just a few minutes.
