The Weißeritztalhang nature reserve is located in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district ( Saxony ).

The nature reserve, which consists of two sub-areas, extends east and south of the core town of Tharandt and north of Höckendorf , a district of the Klingenberg community , along the Wilden Weißeritz and the state road 192.
According to the natural map of Saxony , the area lies in the mesogeochore "Dippoldiswalder Riedelland" and belongs to the microgeochore "Tharandter Weißeritz Valley".
meaning
The 448.6 ha area with the NSG no. D 38 was placed under nature protection in 1961. It is part of the part of the Natura 2000 area designated according to the European Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) (abbreviated as “Habitats Directive”) with the designation “Täler von United and Wilder Weißeritz” and the EU registration number DE 4947-301 (FFH area) and belongs to the European bird sanctuary "Weißeritztäler".
The aim of protection is: “Preservation and documentation of an extensive, species- and structure-rich forest complex made up of various forest communities on the northern edge of the Ore Mountains, depending on altitude and exposure. Preservation and development of the Wild Weißeritz as flowing water with near-natural structure and water dynamics as well as preservation and promotion of the area's own plant and animal populations including their habitats in the supra-regional network. Preservation of culturally and historically valuable relics of coppice forest management. "
In the area, the habitat types (LRT) grove-beech forests (LRT 9110), woodruff beech forests (LRT 9130), bedstraw oak-hornbeam forests (LRT 9170) as well as ravine and mixed slope forests (LRT 9180) are to be protected. Bechstein's bat (Myotis bechsteinii), great mouse-eared bat (M. myotis), pug bat (Barbastella barbastellus), otter (Lutra lutra), western group (Cottus gobio), brook lamprey (Lampetra planeri), Spanish flag (Euplagia quadr), have been found in the nature reserve Common Macaw (Ophiogomphus cecilia) noted. There are also breeding bird species such as kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), red kite (Milvus milvus), gray woodpecker ( Picus canus), black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) and miniature flycatcher (Ficedula parva). There are also observations of mating eagle owls (Bubo bubo).
