The Weidigtbach in the west of Dresden is a 4.7 kilometer left tributary of the United Weißeritz with the main flow direction east, the upper course of which only temporarily carries water. It rises in Gompitz and flows through the districts of Omsewitz , Gorbitz , Leutewitz and Cotta , before reaching the Weißeritz in Friedrichstadt about a kilometer before it flows into the Elbe . The umverlegte in the past, straightened and GDR times in many places built Bach was formerly himself a left tributary of the Elbe . As part of the flood protection in Dresden , disclosures and renaturation have been carried out since 2000, so that only about a third (1.7 km, as of 2012) is now piped.

course

The current origin of the brook is a mostly dry, rudimentary ditch in Altgompitz. Only about half a kilometer to the west-northwest rises a side spring of the Zschonerbach, which flows north through the Zschonergrund . A first water inflow occurs after a quarter of a kilometer at the Gompitz village pond, which is also shown as a source in older maps. A few meters later the Weidigtbach tributary flows from the right (south) . This is only a quarter of a kilometer long and comes from Altnossener Straße / An den Alten Gärtnereien and flows almost parallel to Paul-Breyer-Straße. The Gorbitzbach , the most important of the tributaries of the Weidigtbach, rises around one kilometer southeast of the Gompitzer village pond in the Altfrankener Park (also Lucknerpark ) .

Retention basin on Ockerwitzer Strasse

In the Altgompitz locality, the Weidigtbach is built up and piped in parts before it enters an open section on Ockerwitzer Allee on the eastern boundary of the settlement, which was created as a compensatory and replacement measure after the expansion of federal highway 173 (feeder to the A 17 ). At this point, a flood retention system was built by 2010, consisting of a retention basin , to which 18 naturally designed retention troughs are connected, nine each in a continuous chain on both sides of the stream bed. In an adjoining, near-natural section, it approaches the B 173 ( Coventrystraße ), flowing slightly northeast , until it and the tracks of the Dresden tram running there are crossed at the level of the Gorbitz depot .

The Weidigtbach, now strongly urbanized, has reached the Schlehenstrasse leisure complex. Along the "herb settlement" - the streets bear the names of herb plants such as sloes and chamomiles  - the Dresden Railway Housing Cooperative had sacrificed 30 parking spaces in order to renature the course of the brook in 2004/05 for the purpose of recreation and (to lower charges and reduce the risk of flooding) rainwater to be able to and to create a natural space. As early as 2001, before the flood of the century that changed water policy in August 2002 , the renaturation of the adjoining section up to the Schlehenstraße stop was carried out as a pilot project. After the Schlehenstraße stop, further disclosures took place in 2015/16 from the Tulpenweg along the skate park and Omsewitzer Ring, with a new bridge being built on Omsewitzer Ring and the traffic routing to the skate park being changed. In total, the city of Dresden invested around three million euros between 2000 and 2016 to give the Weidigtbach between Ockerwitzer Strasse and the Ring a largely natural bed again, which improves flood protection, as well as the microclimate and living atmosphere in Gorbitz.

The stream flows further east between the residential development of the Omsewitzer Ring in the south and Coventrystraße in the north, until it again piped under the latter to the northeast and only after a few hundred meters runs northeast of the Melisseweg again above ground. Soon afterwards, the Weidigtbach takes on the pig ditch coming from the southwest. Even more than the Weidigtbach, this is almost completely piped up as a result of the urbanization that took place in the Gorbitz development area in the 1980s. The stream then flows south past the Cotta cemetery and marks the border between the southern new development area and the northern buildings of Cotta from the time before the First World War. The brook follows the east-southeast running Coventrystraße and, after crossing under the confluent Wilhelm-Franz-Straße, takes in a section of about a quarter of a kilometer first the Gorbitz ditch and then the Gorbitzbach . Both tributaries come from the west and each flow south. After the confluence of the Gorbitzsbach, the Weidigtbach follows an arc of about 90 degrees in a northerly direction, crosses under Weidentalstrasse and a little later enters a fortified stream bed with a trapezoidal profile. It passes allotment gardens, forms the western boundary of the area from the Cotta outdoor pool and bends again 90 degrees to the east in front of the Hebbelstraße sports field of Post SV Dresden . The stream has arrived in Werkstättenstrasse and flows through pipes up to its confluence with the Weißeritz. The Weidigtbach overflow runs parallel to it, which is fed by a weir during floods and also flows into the Weißeritz through pipes. If funding is available, the lower reaches from the mouth of the Gorbitzbach ("Cottaer Bogen") should also be designed in a natural way.Template: future / in 5 years

Remarks

  1. The confluence lies west of the Cotta district in the Friedrichstadt district, but the boundary between the two (statistical) districts of the same name runs east of it along the Weißeritz, so that Cotta is sometimes also given as the mouth of the Weidigtbach.
