Especially for a single game - the alleged final for a place in the finals for the North German championship against Eckernförder SV - Baßler and Rudolf Jennewein were reappointed to the Holstein-Kiel squad in July 1946; the game ended 4-2 for Holstein - but it didn't count because it wasn't approved by the military authorities. FC Kaiserslautern.

According to his own statistics, however, he scored up to 40 more league goals - and Ottmar and Fritz Walter a few less - so that he is possibly the top scorer in German league history .
Werner Baßler scored seven goals each in the 14-0 and 16-1 victories against Eintracht Trier and SpVgg Weisenau in 1948/49 , which was the record of the league era after Ottmar Walter's eight goals in the 13-0 victory of 1. FC Kaiserslautern against SpVgg Andernach . However, according to Baßler's statistics, Ottmar Walter did not score eight goals in the game.
