Werner Neugebauer (politician, 1922)

Werner Neugebauer (born August 27, 1922 in Burgstädt ; † November 24, 1990 in Berlin ) was a German SED functionary. From 1955 to 1963 he was head of the popular education department at the Central Committee (ZK) of the SED .

Life

Neugebauer, son of a weaver and a housewife, completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter after elementary school in Chemnitz and worked as a journeyman in Burgstädt. From February to October 1941 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service as a worker. In January 1942 Neugebauer became a soldier of the Wehrmacht and at the end of the war he was taken prisoner as a corporal, where he remained in Schleswig-Holstein until September 1945 .

On returning from captivity, he initially worked again as a typesetter in West Saxony. Since many new teachers were also wanted in the course of denazification in the Soviet Zone , Neugebauer also took up this offer. He was initially a teacher at elementary schools in Burgstädt and Taura . He later directed a school in Lunzenau and the " Ernst Schneller Primary School" in Burgstädt. In February 1946 Neugebauer became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and in April 1946 the SED. In 1948 and 1949, he took the first and second teacher exams while working.

From 1949 to 1950 Neugebauer was chairman of the district committee of the union of teachers and educators in the Rochlitz district . In 1952 he was appointed to the district school council of the Chemnitz-Land district. In 1953 he moved to the city council of Chemnitz and Karl-Marx-Stadt in the field of popular education. After a stopover at the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt as Secretary for Education and Science from March 1954 to February 1955, he became a member of the SED Central Committee in 1954 (until 1981) and from 1955 a full-time employee of the Central Committee. From March 1955 to 1957 he was head of the department for general education schools and from 1957 to 1963 head of the department for popular education in the Central Committee. In February 1963 he was co-opted as a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin and deputy head of the Ideological Commission and head of the Department of Popular Education and Science of the SED district leadership. From 1982 until the peaceful revolution in 1989 Neugebauer was president of the friendship society GDR-Spain . From 1985 he was also a member of the Central Commission for the Care of Old Honored Party Members of the SED.
