Werner Schäfer (General)

Werner Schäfer (born December 3, 1925 in Walddorf near Tübingen , † June 22, 1992 in Rheinbach ) was a German lieutenant general . He was u. a. Head of the Army Office and officer for reservist matters at the General Inspector of the Bundeswehr .

Life

In the Second World War in 1943 he joined the Wehrmacht , was promoted to lieutenant in 1945 and became a prisoner of war .

After the war, Schäfer studied philology and philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and was admitted to the Philosophical Faculty in 1952 with the dissertation The dream of 19th century poets: Franz Grillparzer, Friedrich Hebbel, Otto Ludwig. to the Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as a speaker.

In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr as a first lieutenant in Munster . He was u. a. Platoon leader and company commander in an armored infantry battalion and S 1 in a battalion before he was assigned to the Federal Ministry of Defense . He went through general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. He was then used as a general staff officer. As Colonel i. G. He was from 1970 to 1972 Chief of Staff of the 4th Division hunters in Regensburg.

After another assignment, the brigadier general was from 1974 to 1979 head of sub-division P III (Central Affairs) in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn. From 1979 to 1981 the major general was commander of the 2nd Jägerdivision in Kassel. He was then used as the commander of the Northern Territorial Command in Mönchengladbach. From 1983 to 1986 he was head of the Army Office in Cologne with the rank of Lieutenant General . In 1986 he retired.

Schäfer was married and the father of two children.
