Weser-Leine-Express ( RE 70 ) is the name of a regional express train route in North Rhine-Westphalia which connects the regional center of Bielefeld with Minden and the Lower Saxony regional centers of Hanover and Braunschweig in East Westphalia-Lippe . It also takes on the important east-west traffic in this area. A particular state interest was determined for the section in NRW. The train route is closely linked to the Ems-Leine-Express ( RE 60 ) from Rheine via Minden to Braunschweig. The state border to Lower Saxony is crossed between Minden and Bückeburg .
History and future
Since the introduction of the integral regular-service timetable ( NRW-Takt ) in 1998, the Bielefeld - Braunschweig connection in North Rhine-Westphalia has been known as RE 70 and Weser-Leine-Express . It was operated by DB Regio Nord until December 2015. The new tendering process in 2012 was won by Westfalenbahn , which is to operate the so-called "Mittellandlinie" from December 2015 to December 2030. According to the press release, the number of seats will be increased by up to 60.
Since the 2018/19 winter timetable, cycle compressors have been running every hour between Hanover and Braunschweig, Monday to Saturday. Previously, only three pairs of amplifier trains with load direction Hanover drove on weekdays during rush hour. In December 2019, the offer was extended to Sundays.
Offer
The line runs every two hours. In addition, cycle compressors run every hour between Hanover and Braunschweig. In combination with the regional express called Ems-Leine-Express (RE 60) in North Rhine-Westphalia , which also runs every two hours from Rheine via Osnabrück to Braunschweig, there is an hourly service between Löhne (Westphalia) and Hanover. Together with the RE 60, there is a service of two trains per hour and direction between Hanover and Braunschweig. To avoid a route conflict with the Intercity, the trains of the Westfalenbahn do not run exactly every 30 minutes, but approximately every 20/40 minutes.
The Bielefeld - Löhne - Minden section is served together with the RE lines Westfalen-Express (RE 6) and Porta-Express (RE 78) every half hour from Monday to Friday (small minute deviations). The S-Bahn Hanover S 1 runs every hour between Minden and Hanover , so there is a half-hourly connection between Bielefeld and Hanover, but with very tight connections in Minden that cannot be reached if the Westfalen Express train is delayed . The entire route is also served by Intercity and Intercity Express trains.
Until the timetable change in December 2015, the trains on this line consisted of five double-decker cars with class 111 electric locomotives . Occasionally, trains were hauled by a class 146.1 electric locomotive. The use of double-decker control cars meant that the locomotive did not have to be moved at the terminal stations; the control car drove ahead in the direction of Bielefeld. On the train there was a gastronomic service with a minibar as far as Hanover.
These multiple units of the Stadler KISS type have been in use since the Westfalenbahn took over operations .
Train run
The regional express runs on the following railway lines on its route:
- Hamm – Minden railway line between Bielefeld and Minden,
- Hanover – Minden railway line over the entire length,
- Hanover – Braunschweig railway line over the entire length.
Rates
