West Memphis is a city in Crittenden County in the US -amerikanischen State Arkansas with 26,247 inhabitants ( 2010 ). It is on the Mississippi River .

The geographical coordinates are: 35.15 ° north, 90.18 ° west. The urban area has a size of 68.8 km 2 . The city is part of the metropolitan area of Memphis .
The four-lane Memphis – Arkansas Bridge ( Interstate 55 ) connects West Memphis with Memphis in Tennessee . In the immediate vicinity of two railway bridges ( Frisco and Harahan Bridge ), where the Harahan Bridge to 1949 per one lane for on their outsides motor vehicles led. Today the north side of the bridge has been developed as a pedestrian bridge and is part of a 15 km long cycle path between the city centers of Memphis and West Memphis.

Crittenden County was founded in 1825. A first small settlement called West Memphis arose there in the 1880s. Zack T. Bragg founded a sawmill here in 1914. The developing settlement received city rights in 1927. Zack T. Bragg became the city's first mayor. The city gained international fame with the fall of the West Memphis Three , a controversial criminal case .

The city's most famous resident is the blues singer Sonny Boy Williamson II ; legendary musician Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns grew up here. Other known residents are:
