history

The new building was on 12 March 1970 with Husum shipyard to put Kiel ( hull number 1297) and ran on 12 December 1970 as Westerland launched . After a year of construction, the ferry was delivered to the Copenhagen shipping company Lindinger A / S on March 18, 1971 and then used on the HavnebyList route.

After several restructurings, the shipping company Lindinger had to file for bankruptcy in April 1979 . The Westerland was at the Flensburger Förde Reederei (now Förde Reederei Seetouristik - FRS) sold as a replacement ferry launched . In January 1983 the shipping company EH Rasmussen bought the ship and used it for butter trips between Kappeln and Sønderborg until 1990 . During this time, a duty-free shop was set up on the car deck.

From December 14, 1990, the Westerland was again registered for the Förde shipping company. After a renovation at the Husum shipyard, it started commuting again as a car ferry between Havneby and List on Sylt from May 1991. On July 12, 2005, the double-end ferry SyltExpress was put into service on the route and the Westerland launched in Havneby.

On October 20, 2006, the Westerland was sold to Bligh Water Shipping Ltd. sold to Fiji and then converted to seaworthy conditions at the Husum shipyard. After a voyage across the Cape Verde Islands , the Panama Canal and Tahiti , the ship arrived in the Fiji Islands on January 23, 2007. There the ferry has been operating between the two largest islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, since February 2007, and the ferry has kept the name Westerland . In April 2008, the Westerland drifted onto a reef in a storm, but survived this accident without major damage.
