The LWL archive office for Westphalia is based in Münster, Westphalia, and was founded in 1927 as an archive advice center for the province of Westphalia .
It archives documents from the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe ( Archive of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe ) , the United Westfälische Adelsarchiven eV , Westphalian writers ( Westphalian Literature Archive in cooperation with the Literature Commission for Westphalia ) as well as bequests from other important Westphalian personalities and institutions.
organization
Within the cultural maintenance of the landscape, the archive office has the task of providing technical and technical advice and support to the archives of non-state organizations, i.e. the municipal, church and private archives in Westphalia-Lippe. In addition, the archive office houses the archive of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association with the Westphalian Literature Archive and the archive depot of the United Westphalian Adelsarchive eV . Since 1958, the head of the archives office has been ex officio executive archive director of the aristocratic archives association. A special academic library has been set up as a reference library in the office for employees and users.
The journal Archivpflege in Westfalen-Lippe, published by the Archives Office, has been published twice a year since 1972. It is the newsletter for the municipal archives in Westphalia-Lippe and offers a forum for the exchange of experience in the archives. Another forum is the annual Westphalian Archive Day , which is organized and carried out by the LWL Archive Office. Every two years the archive office takes part in the day of the archives and presents itself to the interested public together with the other archives located in Münster.
In addition, the LWL Archive Office maintains a branch office in the Westphalian Economic Archive in Dortmund for the area of economic archive maintenance, currently with two positions. In addition, the facility is the seat and patron of the Westphalian Society for Genealogy and Family Research eV The Rhenish counterpart of the archive office is the LVR archive advice and training center , which, like the archive office, regularly offers seminars and training.
Since 2016, the Archives office is in addition to the two already existing since 1998, apprenticeships for Specialists in media and information services - specialized in archive also biennial two provincial archives inspector candidate out.
history
Until 1998, the then Westphalian Archives Office was located at Warendorfer Strasse 24 in Münster, near the State House . Since moving to Jahnstrasse, the archive office has had more storage and work space, which is to be expanded by an extension in the coming years.
In 2006, as part of the standardization of the designation of institutions of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe, the previous name "Westphalian Archive Office" was changed to "LWL Archive Office for Westphalia". In the same year, the State Initiative for Conservation of Substance (LISE) was established in office, which is limited to at least December 31, 2019.
After the collapse of Cologne's city archive in 2009, the facility's restoration workshop took over and freeze- dried documents from the accident site as part of the administrative assistance . Together with other helping archives, the exhibition “Westphalia helps Cologne” was shown in the Münster City Museum .
