32 teams take part in the women's Westphalia Cup. The Westphalian teams that played in the Regionalliga West in the previous season are automatically qualified . The remaining teams qualified via the district cup competitions. Since not every football district has enough teams for its own district cup, several district associations have come together to play a joint district cup competition. Second teams are not eligible to participate.
The Westphalia Cup will be played in a knockout system. There is one game in each round. When a game is tied after 90 minutes, the game is two 15-minute extended . If there is still no decision after that, a penalty shoot-out follows . The games of the individual rounds are drawn . In order to avoid driving too long, the teams are divided into four geographically in the first two rounds. The draw takes place within these groups. In the first two rounds, the team that competes in the lower division also has home rights. If two teams from the same league level play against each other, the team drawn first has a home game.
The final will take place at a location to be determined by the FLVW. Only the winner is qualified for the DFB main round. If the Westphalian Cup winner is promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga at the same time , the Westphalian Cup finalist will move up into the DFB Cup.
