Wewahitchka is a city in Gulf County in the US state of Florida with 1981 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Wewahitchka borders the Apalachicola River to the east . The city is about 30 km north of Port St. Joe and about 110 km southwest of Tallahassee .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1981 population at that time was distributed over 1,077 households. The population density was 123 inhabitants / km². 87.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 8.3% as African American , 0.6% as Indians and 0.1% as Asian Americans . 0.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.8% to several ethnic groups. 2.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 31.8% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 31.5% of all households. 65.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.41 people and the average family size was 2.96 people.

26.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 27,964, with 27.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 98.88% of the population and 1.12% spoke Spanish .
