As a clergyman, Kruse had a close relationship with Enwald Schinkel , the abbot of the Eldena monastery , and his prior Michael Knabe, who studied at the university in 1509. As one of the most influential professors, Kruse probably contributed significantly to the abbot being able to take over the rectorate of Greifswald University in 1513. Kruse was one of the opponents of the Reformation . His records show that this was first introduced in Greifswald in 1515.

Several autographs by Wichmann Kruse have survived , most of which are academic theses. In addition to psalm comments, there is also his speech from 1510 on the appointment of Enwald Schinkel as abbot of the Eldena monastery.

After Kruse's death in 1534, his library, consisting of 37 volumes with legal and theological content, went to the Dominican monastery in Greifswald , the Eldena Prior Knabe and to the clergyman and jurist Johann Erp who lived in Anklam . In 1535 Kruse's books came to the St. Petri Church in Wolgast and from there most of them to the University Library of Greifswald . Kruse had included numerous marginal notes in the books that provide information about the reading behavior of an academic who adhered to Catholicism during the Reformation.
