history

The place was first mentioned in 1349 as Villa Hermanni , when it was parished by Bishop Bodzęta to Wiśniowa. The possessive name, derived from the personal name Herzman (≤ Herman ), changed through Herzmanowka (1365), Iezmanovca / Grimanowca (1390), Gyrzmanowca (1394), Irzmanowca (1398), Jrzmanowka (1404), Irzmanowicze ( patronymic with the suffix - (ow) ice, 1414), Gisnanowka (1441), Hyrzmanowka (1443), Minor Syrzmanowka (1456), Irzmanowa / Yrzmanowa, villa sub parochia de Wysznyowa sita ( Jan Długosz , 1470–1480), Jerzmanowka (1504), Hyrzmanowa ( 1504), Hyrzmanowa ( 1504), 1510), Irzsmanowa (1516), Jrzmanowa (1528), Irzmanowa (1581, 1680), Wirszbanow (1772), Irzmanowa (map by Friedrich von Mieg, 1779–1782), on Wierzbanowa . This form now contained the word wierzba ( willow ) and the topographical name is similar. In 1365 it was awarded with the neighboring forest to Goszcz , the son of Adam from Wiśniowa, in order to transfer it into German law. In 1414 a woman named Katherina was mentioned as mayor .

Politically and administratively the village belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Szczyrzyc District.

When Poland was first partitioned , Wierzbanowa became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

After the outbreak of the First World War in the Battle of Limanowa , the 14th Landwehr Infantry Regiment Brno stormed the Russian positions there on December 5, 1914. In 1918, after the end of the World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Wierzbanowa came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the Krakow district in the General Government . From the autumn of 1944, some army units of the Polish Home Army operated there .

From 1975 to 1998 Wierzbanowa was part of the Krakow Voivodeship .
