The Wieskirche "To the Scourged Savior" is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church on the western outskirts of Grub , about 200 m northeast of Moosbach .

history

In 1746 the unmarried Moosbacher daughter Elisabeth Hiltner brought a carved image of the scourged Savior from a pilgrimage to the miraculous image of the Wieskirche in Steingaden and this was used in a field chapel near Grub with the permission of the pastor . This chapel was built in 1706 by the tailor Georg Wesnitzer. The pilgrimage that then developed attracted pilgrims from Pilsen, Prague and Vienna. The incoming offering money between 1747 and 1756 amounted to more than 11,000 florins as well as lard and eggs worth 322 florins. In addition, valuable votive offerings (so-called attachment money, i.e. silver chains, coins on ribbons, thalers and rings made of gold and silver) accumulated.

The builder Andreas Dobmeier from Waidhaus created a plan for a new church on behalf of the local pastor. The foundation stone for this was laid on June 19, 1748. The construction of the church began with the active help of the population. But four weeks after the start of construction, a dispute began between the Moosbach community and the Treswitz nursing office over the law of jurisdiction . The government in Amberg decided in favor of the nursing office, whereupon the Moosbacher citizens turned to the appellate court in Munich. In addition, the citizens, led by Mayor Feil, advanced armed against the craftsmen, took their tools and sent them to prison. The Electoral Palatinate government in Amberg then threatened with military means of coercion. In October 1749 construction could be continued and ended on September 21, 1752 (construction costs 6497 fl). On October 15, 1752, the miraculous image was ceremoniously transferred from the field chapel to the Wieskirche.

In 1766 the construction of the tower of the Wieskirche began under the master builder Emmeram Grundler from Waidhaus. The clerk Mariophilus von Sonnenburg had the building supervision . After three years of construction, the tower was completed and Georg Adam Lochmüller put on the triple tower cross in 1769. The construction costs amounted to 12,163 florins.

Building

The Wieskirche is a baroque hall church with a retracted choir in the east. The church has a length of 28 m, the width of the presbytery is 6.9 m, for the nave 10.4 m. The interior has a flat ceiling, the choir a Bohemian cap vault.

On the north side there is a four-storey tower with a double onion hood and lantern.

Furnishing

Wieskirche "To the Scourged Savior": interior

The late baroque furnishings are still preserved. The high altar was designed by Amberg artists, the sculpting work was done by Paul Hirsch, the carpentry work by Peter Bach and the barrel work by Matthias Pösl. In the high altar above the tabernacle there is the miraculous image in a small glass shrine . The altarpiece is by Mautthner. The pulpit was made in 1775 by the aforementioned artists. The north side altar is consecrated to Francis of Assisi (minor figures are the Jesuits St. Ignatius and Francis Xavier ), the south to the Mother of God (minor figures St. Ottilia and St. Clare ). They were made by the sculptor Peter Stöber and the barrel painter GM Pösl. The dining grid made the carpenter Joseph Ruff. The oak confessionals were made by Hirsch and Bader in 1775; the pictures on them show Peter with the rooster and Maria Magdalena with the cross and skull. The cheeks of the church chairs also come from these artisans. The Way of the Cross was donated by the farmer M. Saller from the Ödhof .

Many votive pictures and votive offerings represent the concerns to which the pilgrims dedicated their pilgrimage. Half of the votive tablets were lost due to a theft in the 1970s. The church continues to be the destination of pilgrimages, most recently also by pilgrims from Steingaden , from where the local image of grace originates.

organ

A first organ was installed in 1761. An organ with six registers was built into the baroque organ case in 1983 based on a design by cathedral organist Eberhard Kraus from the organ building company Johann Rickert from Regensburg .

Bells

There is an anecdote to tell about the bells: In order to avoid the impending surrender of the bells during the First World War , citizens of Moosbach broke into the church on November 17, 1917 and stole the bells prepared for removal and then buried them. The perpetrators have never been found, but the bells reappeared after the war.

During the Second World War , all three bells had to be delivered. The oldest from 1765 came back to the Wieskirche. In 1960 a second bell was donated for the Wieskirche. In 1984 a third bell was collected, which was then manufactured by the Perner bell foundry in Passau. The church now has three bells that St. Barbara (510 kg from 1765), Maria and Joseph (360 kg from 1960) and the Scourged Savior (140 kg from 1984) are consecrated. The ringing tones has the gis 1 , ais 1 and cis 1 .

Klause at the Wieskirche

On January 13, 1779 the Klausner Felix Dippert was allowed by the government in Amberg to build a hermitage based on the church from his own resources. He could see the high altar through a high window in his living room to prevent theft. After the death of Klausner († 15 May 1803) the minister saw no need for the preservation of the Hermitage as a sacristan could now take care of the church. On August 23, 1803, the hermitage was auctioned for demolition; It was acquired by Peter Ulrich, blacksmith von Burgtreswitz, for 32 fl.
