history

In the Middle Ages, the castle of the Lords of Rotenburg, a sideline of the Lords of Rötteln , stood on the Rotenberg north of the town . It was destroyed in 1356 by the Basel earthquake , which not only reduced the city of Basel to rubble, but also caused great damage along the Upper Rhine and in Breisgau . The common people's wooden huts turned out to be more resilient. Since 1936 the place belongs to the district of Lörrach . On January 1, 2009, the previously independent community of Wieslet was incorporated into the newly founded community of Kleines Wiesental.
