After the German-Soviet war had the coal mines in the south of the country to be rebuilt. Mikhailov suggested special frame constructions made of the prestressed concrete developed in the laboratory and the series production of these elements. By the end of 1946 60.000 elements were produced and in Donbass - shafts installed. On the basis of Mikhailov's developments, prestressed concrete tubes with radial bracing were manufactured in Gorky in the reinforced concrete plant No. 5, which were used in the construction of the underground according to Mikhailov's proposal . In 1956 Mikhailov was elected to the Academy of Architectural Sciences of the USSR .
Mikhailov's younger brother Konstantin Wassiljewitsch Michailow headed the Institute for Concrete and Reinforced Concrete from 1965 to 1988.
