Viktor Vladimirovich Novoshilov

Viktor Vladimirovich Novoshilov ( Russian Виктор Владимирович Новожилов ; born June 5, 1950 in Leningrad, today Saint Petersburg , † 1991 ) was a Soviet wrestler . He was world champion and European champion in 1974 in free style in the middleweight division .

Career

Viktor Novoshilov, a member of the Soviet security forces, was a member of Dynamo Leningrad . His coach W. Kornilow shaped him into one of the best middleweight freestyle wrestlers in the world in the early 1970s. Before he came to his first appearances at international championships in 1974, he had already proven himself in a number of tournaments and scored a few wins. In those years he defeated z. B. the top wrestlers from the GDR Horst Stottmeister and Benno Paulitz and the Bulgarians Schukri Lutwiew-Achmedow .

At the 1974 European Championships in Madrid , he appeared in impressive form. He got six wins there, four of which were premature. He defeated u. a. Vasile Iorga from Romania , Mehmet Uzun from Turkey and István Kovács from Hungary . Winning the European title was well deserved. He also wrestled just as hard at the World Cup in Istanbul that year . Here five victories were enough for him to become world champion.

In 1975 Wiktor was defeated at the Soviet championships against Vasily Sjulschin and was therefore not used in the European and world championships that year. In the 1976 Olympic year he was able to assert himself again at the national level and initially represented the Soviet Union at the European Championships in Leningrad . But he no longer had the super form of 1974, because he only lost on points against the Bulgarian Ismail Abilow and even on shoulders against Adolf Seger from Germany and only finished third behind these wrestlers. Nevertheless, Viktor Novoshilov was also used at the Olympic Games in Montreal . He was able to rehabilitate himself here at least to the extent that this time he won against Adolf Seger and Ismail Abilow on points and won the silver medal after a defeat against John Peterson from the USA .

From 1977 Viktor Novoschilow could no longer prevail in the Soviet Union against Magomedchan Arazilow and Hassan Zangiew and therefore came to no more appearances at international championships.
