Wilfried Possner

Wilfried Poßner (born September 13, 1949 in Neustadt an der Orla ) was from 1985 to 1989 chairman of the pioneering organization "Ernst Thälmann" and from 1989 to 1990 State Secretary in the Modrow government of the GDR .

Life

Poßner, the son of a working-class family, completed vocational training as a bricklayer with a high school diploma from 1964 to 1968 . From 1968 to 1970 he did 18 months of military service with the border troops of the NVA . He was released as a private and later was first lieutenant in the reserve. He joined the FDJ in 1964 and the SED in 1969 . From 1970 to 1974 he studied at the University of Education in Potsdam , where he was FDJ secretary until 1976. From 1976 to 1979 he was an aspirant at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the CPSU and was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

Then he was head of the student department and from December 1980 to 1989 secretary and member of the office of the Central Council of the FDJ. From February 15, 1985 to 1989, he was also the successor to Helga Labs and chairman of the pioneering organization "Ernst Thälmann" . From 1984 to 1986 he was a member of the youth commission at the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED and from 1986 to 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED and from 1986 to 1990 a member of the People's Chamber .

On December 17, 1989, Prime Minister Hans Modrow proposed at the 12th session of the People's Chamber that a Minister for Education and Youth should be included in the new government. As a result of the coalition negotiations, the SED named MP Wilfried Poßner from the FDJ parliamentary group for this function. However, on November 19, 1989, Hans-Heinz Emons was elected Minister . On November 30, 1989, he finally became State Secretary and head of the newly created Office for Youth and Sport at the Council of Ministers of the GDR and held this office until April 1990.

For several years Poßner has been working as a freelance lecturer in the field of adult qualification and further education in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district .
