Wilhelm von der Sann (Wilhelm IV., Wilhelm II.) († March 20, 1036 ) was Count of Friesach and Trixen and Margrave of Soune (Saunien, Sannmark , Sanntal ).

He was the son of the Count of Friesach and Margrave of the same name in Carinthia and the Leopirgis.

It was first mentioned in 1016. In 1017, Duke Adalbero of Carinthia, in his capacity as Margrave of Verona, held a court day with him and other assessors in Treviso .

In 1025 it was donated by King Konrad II , who had only been in office for a year and wanted to support Wilhelm as a counterweight to Duke Adalbero, in his county of Soune between the rivers Kopreinitz / Koprivnica (?), Kötting / Köttnig / Hudinja and Wogliena / Voglajna , furthermore in Carniola between the rivers Gurk / Krka and Save 30 Königs hoof as well as the associated mountains, valleys and forests.

In 1028 he was given another imperial donation: He received two times 30 Königshufen and other possessions in villa Traskendorf (Drachenburg / Kozje ) and between Save and Sann / Savinja , Sotla and Neiring / Mirna in comitatu Sounae . These are the later episcopal Gurk dominions Rohitsch / Rogatec , Windisch-Landsberg / Podčetrtek , Montpreis / Planina pri Sevnici , Peilenstein / Pilštanj , Königsberg / Kunšperk , Hörberg / Podsreda , Wisell / Bizeljsko and Nassenfuß / Mokronog . Furthermore, the Friesach market was confirmed to him.

According to other sources, the Drachenburg donation was made in 1016 by Emperor Heinrich II , as was the granting of market and customs rights for any location in his county of Friesach .

Together with the inheritance of his father, who received the later Gurk rule Weitenstein / Vitanje as a gift from Otto II in 980 , Wilhelm now had notable allodial property in his trademark area.

Around 1030 Wilhelm is mentioned as Vogt of the Salzburg Archbishop Dietmar II .

At the beginning of 1036 he was personally killed by Duke Adalbero, who had been deposed in 1035.
