Wilhelm Bierfelder

Wilhelm Hans Bierfelder (born April 30, 1926 in Forchheim ; † February 8, 2017 ) was a German economist . From 1971 to 1991 he held the chair for general business administration , innovation and organizational research at the University of Stuttgart .

Life

Beer fields studied business administration ( Diplom-Kaufmann 1950), Mathematics and Management Sciences and in 1951 at Ernst Meier at the University of Economics and Social Sciences Nuremberg with a thesis on importance and limitations of mathematics in statistics and economics and social sciences to Dr. oec. PhD.

In 1951 he moved to the Research Center for Social Problems. V. in Nuremberg . In 1952/53 he worked at the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at the University of Liverpool and in 1955/56 at the Institute for Social Research at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . From 1957 to 1962 he worked at the German Institute for the Promotion of Young Industrial Managers (DIF) in Cologne and advised the OECD ; from 1963 to 1968 he was head of research ( systems research ) in Bonn . In 1966 he completed his habilitation with a thesis supervised by Hanns Linhardt ( optimal information behavior in the company's decision-making process ) and became a private lecturer in general business administration at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . From 1968 to 1971 he was a board member of the German Institute for Distance Learning (DIFF) in Tübingen . In 1971 he became a full professor for business administration with a focus on innovation management at the University of Stuttgart (TH). In 1991 he retired.

He was a member of the Wilhelm Vershofen Society . His main research interests were innovation and organizational research . He has published in magazines such as The Enterprise , Management International Review , Eastern European Economy and Social World . Edmund Heinen described his book Optimales Informationsbehavior in the company's decision-making process (1968) as a "valuable contribution to business decision-making and the application of information technology in business practice". In the 1960s and 1970s he worked on several studies by Rudolf Warnke of the command staff of the armed forces at the Federal Ministry of Defense, including on non-commissioned officers and reserve officers . In 1965 he translated Sociology and the military establishment by Morris Janowitz and Roger W. Little into German ( military and society ).

At the University of Stuttgart, Bierfelder and his wife awarded the Professor Bierfelder Prize for the best overall grade in the field of economics from 2011 onwards . His estate is in the Baden-Württemberg Economic Archives in Stuttgart ( University of Hohenheim ).
