Wilhelm Doms (born October 8, 1868 in Ratibor , Upper Silesia , † February 14, 1957 in Berlin ) was a German artist and writer. His works of art are reminiscent of Alfred Kubin , Marcus Behmer and Paul Scheerbart .

Life and work

Wilhelm Doms was a son of the tobacco industrialist Heinrich Doms. His great-grandfather was the tobacco industrialist in Ratibor Joseph Doms (1780-1853). The brothers Julius and Herbert Doms were his nephews.

After graduating from high school in Ratibor, he studied physics in Geneva and then music in Leipzig . First he acquired the art, partly as an autodidact, in Munich from 1896 . He then studied painting at the art academy in Munich. In 1904 he exhibited his works for the first time at exhibitions in Munich and Düsseldorf.

From 1907 he lived in Berlin as a painter, etcher and draftsman. In 1942 his apartment and studio were destroyed in a bombardment - a large part of the works of art were lost as a result. After his death in 1962, a collection of his works of art paintings - watercolors - graphics was published by Brentano Verlag in Stuttgart ; the foreword and the remarks on Wilhelm Dom's personality were written by the theologian Herbert Doms.

He founded the Mensch-Erde-Bund in Berlin , which was incorporated into the German Society for International Regulation of Population Policy in 1919 . V. was renamed.
