Wilhelm Gössmann
Wilhelm Gössmann (born October 20, 1926 in Rüthen -Langenstrasse; † January 2, 2019 ) was a German literary scholar .
Scientific career
Gössmann's school education was interrupted by military service and imprisonment. After graduating from high school, he studied German , philosophy and theology in Münster and Munich from 1946 to 1955 , where Gössmann received his doctorate in 1955 with a dissertation on Annette von Droste-Hülshoff .
From 1955 to 1960 he worked as a lecturer at Sophia University and the University of Tokyo . In 1962 he became a professor at the Weingarten University of Education , and in 1968 Gössmann moved to the Rhineland University of Education . From 1980 until his retirement in 1991 he was professor of German literature at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .
Cultural engagement
In addition to his academic work, Gössmann was involved in many ways in the sense of cultural mediation and popularization of literature. From 1973 to 1983 he was chairman of the Heinrich Heine Society . He was also a founding member of the Christine Koch Society and the Sauerland Literary Association. He also acted as chairman of »Initiative. Association for the Promotion of Culture in the Country ". He has also published poetic texts and books on theological topics.
Private
Gössmann had been married to Elisabeth Gössmann since 1954 and had two daughters. He lived in Düsseldorf and Rüthen. Since his student days, Gössmann was a member of the Catholic student association in the KV Hansea-Halle in Münster.
