Wilhelm Koch (born March 3, 1877 in Dönges , † March 7, 1950 in Wuppertal-Barmen ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( DNVP ). In 1927/28 he held the post of Reich Minister of Transport in the Marx IV cabinet .

Life and work

After attending primary school in Dönges, Koch completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Salzungen , which he completed in 1897 with the journeyman's examination. He then did military service with the Rhenish Infantry Regiment 69 until 1899, most recently as a medical sergeant. In the following years he worked as a carpenter in several cities. At the same time, he continued his education with social and economic courses. He has been involved in the trade union movement since 1905, was the Protestant workers' secretary in Hagen from 1908 to 1913 and head of the Reich Association of German State Workers from 1913 to 1921. In addition, he acted as editor of the newspaper Der Staatsarbeiter . From August 1914 to July 1917 he took part in the First World War as a soldier .

During the time of the Weimar Republic , Koch was chairman of the International Working Group of Protestant Workers' Associations, second equal chairman of the General Union of Protestant Workers' Associations in Germany and chairman of the Association of Protestant workers' associations in the Prussian provinces of Rhineland and Westphalia . In September 1933 he took over as managing director of the Thalia Theater in Wuppertal-Elberfeld .

MP

Koch was a city ​​councilor in Elberfeld from 1919 to 1924 . In 1919/20 he was a member of the Weimar National Assembly . In the Reichstag election in June 1920 he was elected to the German Reichstag , to which he belonged until November 1933.

Public offices

On February 1, 1927, Koch was appointed Minister of Transport to the government led by Chancellor Wilhelm Marx . After forming a coalition of SPD , DVP , DDP , Zentrum and BVP , he left the government on June 28, 1928.
