Wilhelm Mangold (theologian)

Wilhelm Julius Mangold (born November 20, 1825 in Kassel , † March 1, 1890 in Bonn ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Wilhelm Mangold was the son of Geh. Medical Councilor Karl Mangold Hassiae Marburg. After attending grammar school, he studied Protestant theology at the Friedrichs University in Halle from 1845 . There he became a member of the Joachimsthal fraternity in 1845 . He moved to the Philipps University of Marburg at Easter 1847 and became a member of the Corps Teutonia Marburg in 1848 . He completed his first exam in the fall of 1848 with great success. Mangold then studied another two semesters at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . From 1852 he was a private lecturer in Marburg . Since he did not get a professorship at the theological faculty in Marburg, he became a repentent at the Seminarum Philippinum in Marburg. He was the educator of the sons of Friedrich Wilhelm I (Hessen-Kassel) . In 1857 he became associate professor at the theological faculty in Marburg and in 1863 full professor. In 1864 he married Rosa Küchler from Münden (Lichtenfels) . In 1867 he was dean of the theological faculty and in 1870 rector of the University of Marburg. In addition, he was the Hessian consistorial councilor. From 1871 to 1872 Mangold was a member of the constituency of Kassel 10 (Marburg) in the Prussian House of Representatives . He belonged to the faction of the National Liberal Party . On September 6, 1872, he lost his mandate when he was appointed full professor at the University of Bonn. When he left Marburg, he was given honorary citizenship of the city of Marburg on December 28, 1872 because of his services, acquired through many years of work as head of the journeyman's training association and chairman of the private poor association . For the academic year 1876/77 he was elected rector of the University of Bonn. He died in office at the age of 64.
