Wilhelm Meise (General)

Wilhelm Meise (born August 16, 1891 in Munich ; † August 11, 1974 ) was a German lieutenant general and inspector of the pioneers in World War II .

Life

Meise joined the 3rd Engineer Battalion of the Bavarian Army as a flag junior in July 1910 . In both world wars he served exclusively in the pioneer troop. After the November Revolution he studied in Munich and was accepted into the Reichswehr . In 1919 he became active in the Corps Ratisbonia Munich , but left there in the 1960s. According to the Kösener corps lists in 1960 he was promoted to Dr. oec. publ. , according to other sources on the Dr. rer. pole. or Dr.-Ing. PhD .

In the army (Wehrmacht) he became commander of Pioneer Battalion 7 in Munich on October 1, 1935 and of Pioneer Battalion 17 in Ingolstadt on April 1, 1938. Since February 1, 1939, commander of Pioneers XVII in Linz , he was commander of the Rhine crossings at the beginning of the attack on Poland . From November 1, 1939, he was pioneer leader of the 12th Army for almost two years . From October 1, 1941 to September 1, 1943 he was General of the Pioneers in Army Group Center . After three months as Senior Pioneer Commander, Meise switched to Army Group B as General of the Pioneers on December 1, 1943 . From January 1, 1945 until the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht , he was Inspector of the Pioneers.

After the war he lived in Otterberg , Pfalz and later in Graefelfing near Munich.
