In the bibliography published by his son Rudolf on his 100th birthday in 1965, the volume of Nestle's work is estimated at 34 independent works, 212 essays and papers in magazines and newspapers, and 628 reviews. In addition, there are said to be numerous unpublished manuscripts in his estate. Beginning with his first work from 1903, the focus of his work is on writings on Greek philosophy , including the third volume of Friedrich Nietzsche's Philologica with Otto Crusius in 1913 and a number of other basic works such as the four-volume selection The Greek Philosophers , the three-volume work Greek Religiosity published in its main features and main representatives as well as a history of Greek literature . His major works, From Mythos to Logos, the Self- Development of Greek Thought from Homer to Sophistics and Socrates, and the Development of Greek Spiritual History from Homer to Lucian in their development from mythical to rational thought, which were created late in 1940 and 1944, are presented as the result of his decades of Greek thought Studies rated. His later work also includes theological writings such as The Crisis of Christianity, Its Cause, Its Becoming and Its Significance from 1947. The theologian Josef Hasenfuß summarized the basic thesis of this book as follows: “Today people could no longer be committed to the Christian creed; but they needed the ethics of Jesus to avoid the threat of self-destruction. That is why the only option left for the church is to turn away from dogmatics and turn to the ethical core of Jesus' teaching, to love one's neighbor. "
