Wilhelm Ploog (born July 15, 1873 in Krützfeld near Eutin , † August 27, 1970 in Berlin ) was a German trade union official .

Life

After attending primary school, Ploog learned the trade of tailor and worked in this trade from 1893 to 1906. In 1897 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the German Tailors 'Association, he was chairman of the Lübeck branch of the tailors' association and head of the agitation commission . From 1906 to 1912 he was managing director of the association of tailors, tailors and laundry workers in Leipzig , from 1912 Gauleiter of the association for Saxony , Thuringia and Anhalt and at times also chairman of the Leipzig trade union cartel . From 1919 to 1922 he was a member of the main board and then from 1922 to 1932 Vice Chairman of the German Clothing Workers' Association, which emerged from the Association of Tailors, Dressmakers and Laundry Workers. Between 1933 and 1945 he participated in the resistance against the Nazi regime .

In 1945 Ploog became a member of the SPD again, from 1946 he was a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB). Ploog was one of the co-founders of the industrial union (IG) clothing in Greater Berlin . From 1946 to 1950 he was second chairman of the IG clothing and then until 1952 a functionary of the IG textile-clothing-leather of Greater Berlin. In 1952 he retired . From 1957 to 1965 he was still chairman of the working group of merited trade union veterans of the IG Textile-Clothing-Leather.
