Detlev Brunner

Detlev Brunner (born September 14, 1959 in Weißenburg in Bavaria ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1978 to 1985 Brunner studied modern and medieval history and sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Free University of Berlin . In 1991 he was at the Institute of History of the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis on bureaucracy and politics of the General German Trade Union Federation 1918/19 until 1933 to Dr. phil. PhD .

He then worked at the Institute for Research into the European Labor Movement at the Ruhr University in Bochum and was a lecturer at the TU Berlin. In 1998 he moved to the Historical Institute of the University of Rostock and completed his habilitation in 2004 with Werner Müller at the Philosophical Faculty there with the thesis The Schein der Souveränität. State government and occupation policy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania 1945-1949 . Then he taught as a private lecturer in Rostock. From 2007 to 2009 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Contemporary History in Berlin. Since 2010 he has been a deputy chair for modern and contemporary history (Professorship Günther Heydemann ) at the University of Leipzig . His main research interests are the history of social movements and the history of East Germany after the Second World War.

Brunner is a liaison professor of the DGB-affiliated Hans Böckler Foundation , a member of the discussion group on social and economic history at the chairman of the German Federation of Trade Unions and chairman of the Johannes Sassenbach Society .
