Wilhelm Sandfuchs (born January 28, 1891 in Braunschweig , † September 7, 1969 in Bremen ) was a German teacher and Low German writer. He wrote his literary work mainly in the East Westphalian dialect spoken between Braunschweig and Helmstedt .

Life

Wilhelm Sandfuchs was born in Braunschweig in 1891 as the son of the father of the same name, who came from a Lautenthal miners family, and his wife Helene, née. Sandelmann, born. He attended the orphanage school in Braunschweig and then from 1905 to 1911 the ducal teachers' seminar . He taught at various schools in the state of Braunschweig and most recently in the city of Braunschweig. From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a lieutenant and company commander. After the war, Sandfuchs taught as a primary school teacher in Braunschweig until he retired in 1956. He had been married to Emmi Link from Hamburg since 1916. The marriage has three children. A few years after retirement, the couple moved to Bremen, where Sandfuchs died on September 7, 1969.

His high and low German literary work includes poetry, short stories, fables and dramatic scenes. Topics are "rural everyday life and rural customs in a pre-modern, contemplative world". In 1939 he published an East Westphalian children's book. His transfer of the Eulenspiegel book from 1515 to today's East Westphalian Platt, created in 1943, was only published in excerpts. During the time of National Socialism , Sandfuchs created works in line with the Nazi ideology, which in 1941 the Brunswick district home keeper and NSDAP member Rudolf Fricke characterized as "National Socialist in the best sense of the word".
