Wilhelm Weissenborn

Wilhelm August Adam Weißenborn (born November 23, 1803 in Riethnordhausen ; † November 5, 1878 in Eisenach ) was a German theologian , philologist , historian , politician and member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .

Life

Wilhelm Weißenborn was the son of pastor Johann Georg Weißenborn (1759–1806) and Maria Wilhelmina geb. Voppel (1778-1819). After the early death of his father, he moved with his mother to their place of birth, Dankmarshausen near Eisenach. His mother married the teacher Johann Adam Hagelgans for the second time in 1810. Wilhelm Weißenborn first attended elementary school in Dankmarshausen and then the grammar school in Eisenach, which he graduated two years after the death of his mother.

From 1821 to 1825 he studied Protestant theology, philology and history in Jena , where he received his doctorate in 1825. theol. received his doctorate. Among his professors were Karl Wilhelm Göttling , Heinrich Luden and Ludwig Friedrich Otto Baumgarten-Crusius . In Jena he joined the Burgkeller fraternity in 1821 .

After completing his studies, he worked as a private tutor in Paris , and in 1826 he went to Ruhla to do the same . From 1826 to 1827 he was employed as a teacher in Hofwil . In 1827/28 he was a collaborator in the Georgenkirche and teacher at the girls' school in Eisenach. In 1828/29 he was representative of the pastor in Oberweid . From 1828 to 1879 he worked as a high school professor in Eisenach.

In 1848/49 he was a member of the Frankfurt Paulskirche parliament for the constituency 2. Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (Eisenach) . He was a member of the Württemberger Hof parliamentary group .

In 1850 he became a member of the Erfurt Parliament and in 1870 he became a member of the Hofrat . He was also a member of Eisenach's city council from 1870 to 1873. In 1873 he retired.

His commentaries on Ab urbe condita des Titus Livius belong to the standard works of Livius research up to the present day.

The mathematician Hermann Weißenborn (1830-1896) was his son.
