Johann Julius Wilhelm Planck , since 1870 Knight von Planck (born April 22, 1817 in Göttingen , † September 14, 1900 in Munich ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Wilhelm was a son of the theologian Heinrich Ludwig Planck .

He was professor of Roman law , civil law and criminal procedural law

He was university rector four times : 1856/57, 1857/58 and 1861/62 in Kiel and 1872/73 in Munich. He was a co-author of the Civil Code .

In 1870 King Ludwig II awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown . With the award, the elevation to the personal nobility was connected and he was allowed to call himself "Knight of Planck" after the entry in the nobility register . In 1887 he received the Commander-in-Chief and in 1895 the Grand Commander of this order.

Wilhelm Planck is the father of the physicist Max Planck and the lawyer Hugo Planck . His brother is the lawyer Gottlieb Planck , his grandfather the Protestant theologian Gottlieb Jakob Planck . His grandson is the professor of internal medicine at the University of Greifswald, Erich Peiper , his great-grandson is the professor for surgery at the University of Mainz, Herbert Peiper , and his great-great-grandson is the professor for surgery Hans-Jürgen Peiper .
