Willi Gerns
Willi Gerns (born December 13, 1930 in Hanover ) is a German functionary of the German Communist Party . Together with Robert Steigerwald, he is considered the chief ideologist of the DKP.
Life
Willi Gerns was born in Hanover in 1930 as the son of a working-class family. While his mother was more Christian-oriented, Gern's father was a worker, a member of the Red Aid and later imprisoned in the Emsland concentration camp .
He attended high school, began an apprenticeship as a carpenter , which he had to break off because of the family needs. Since 1949 he has been a member of the FDJ and KPD and is politically active as a functionary of the FDJ and the KPD , which will soon be banned ; for violating the FDJ ban and the KPD ban pronounced by the Federal Constitutional Court in 1956 , he received a total of 29 months' imprisonment. From 1955 to 1957, after four months of pre- trial detention in Lüneburg, he was imprisoned for 20 months in the Wolfenbüttel correctional facility and, after further convictions, for five months in Hanover and Bremen . He took part in a one-year course at the party college "Karl Marx" and later attended the Lenin School in Moscow with subsequent exams as a specialist translator for economics and as a graduate economist. In the meantime, he worked for the Vereinigte Leichtmetallwerke and the Pelikan Werke in Hanover, as well as a technical draftsman in an engineering office. From 1968 to 1990 he was a member of the party presidium and secretary of the party executive committee of the DKP. As the author of numerous books and magazine articles on various political and social science topics, he had a great influence on the internal party discussions and the strategy debates of the German left. His text Problems of the Strategy of the Antimonopolitical Struggle , written in 1972 together with Robert Steigerwald , was the first comprehensive description of the DKP strategy after it was founded in 1968 . Until he resigned for health reasons in 2018, he was a member of the editorial board and editorial team of the magazine Marxistische Blätter and worked as a consultant for Marxist educational communities. Gerns is married, has a daughter and has lived in Bremen since 1963.
