Robert Steigerwald

Robert Steigerwald (born March 24, 1925 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 30, 2016 in Eschborn ) was a German party functionary of the DKP and a Marxist philosopher .

Life

From 1943 to 1945 Steigerwald did Reich labor service and military service as a pilot in the Air Force . After 1948 he studied history, German and philosophy. At the same time he was a youth radio editor at Radio Frankfurt and a radio play author. He was co-founder and chairman of the SPD- affiliated youth organization Die Falken , and from 1945 to 1948 an SPD member and an SPD functionary. In February 1948 he joined the KPD and was then dismissed from the radio. Steigerwald decided to study for two years at the SED party college in Kleinmachnow ; there he was then a teacher of philosophy.

In 1951 Steigerwald returned to the Federal Republic of Germany . He worked as a functionary of the Social Democratic Action (SDA), an organization initiated and financed by the KPD, in which deputy communists and social democrats who were excluded from the SPD worked. In 1953 Steigerwald was arrested, in 1956 brought to court with other functionaries of the SDA, which has meanwhile been banned as a communist cover organization , for endangering the state (§ 84 of the Criminal Code ). Criminal panel of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe sentenced to three and a half years in prison. After his release he worked in the illegal central committee of the KPD. In 1968 he received his doctorate at Manfred Buhr Dr. phil. with the work of Herbert Marcuse's third way .

After the DKP was founded in 1968, Steigerwald was a member of its party executive and was head of the theory and Marxist education department. He was chairman of the Association of Marxist Educational Communities of the FRG (MAB) and long-time editor-in-chief of the Marxist papers . Later he was a member of the editorial team along with Willi Gerns and others. In the Hessian state elections in 1983 and 1987 , he ran in the constituency of Main-Taunus I , where he received 0.2% of the valid votes.

Steigerwald was one of the theoretical thought leaders of the DKP. He was honorary chairman of the Marx-Engels-Foundation eV in Wuppertal , member of the scientific advisory board of the education community SALZ eV and author of numerous papers and books. He lived in Eschborn.

In his obituary, Manuel Kellner recalls the Leverkusen dialogue between various leftist movements that Robert Steigerwald supported.
