William "Willy" Stephen Goulden Bach, Baron Bach (born December 25, 1946 in London ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ) and life peer .

life and career

Bach attended Westminster School and then studied at New College , Oxford . There he obtained a bachelor's degree ( BA Hons ) in English language and literary studies . He then completed his legal training in Nottingham . In 1972 he was a barrister admitted; in the same year he came to Leicester as a young lawyer , where he settled permanently. He was a member of the Bar Association in King Street ( King Street Chambers ) in the judicial district of Midland ( Midland Circuit ). In 1996 he became chairman of the Chamber's Criminal Law Practice . At the Society of Labor Lawyers , Bach is a member of the Executive Committee , as well as co-founder and chairman in East Midlands .

He held various offices in local politics . He was a councilor ( Councilor ) in Leicester City Council (1976-1987). From 1991 to 1999 he was Councilor of Lutterworth Town Council . From 1993 to 1994 he was mayor ( Mayor ) of Lutterworth. He was later a councilor ( Councilor ) in the Harborough District Council (1995-1999).

Bach ran unsuccessfully in the 1979 , 1983 and 1987 general election. From 1998 to 1999 he was an elected member of the Labor Party's National Policy Forum . During the same period he was a member of the Economic Policy Commission .

He is a member of the Co-operative Party . He held various party offices. From 1989 to 1995 he was district chairman of the Labor Party in the Harborough district; since 2007 he has held this position again. Since 2007 he has been chairman of the Labor Party in the constituency of South Leicestershire ( South Leicestershire Constituency ).

Bach lived in London , from the 2006/2007 session in Leicestershire . Bach is married and has three children.

Membership in the House of Lords

Bach was named Life Peer as Baron Bach, of Lutterworth in the County of Leicestershire on July 27, 1998 . On July 28, 1998, the official introduction to the House of Lords took place with the support of Greville Janner, Baron Janner of Braunstone and Roy Hattersley . He gave his inaugural address on October 20, 1998.

From 1999 to 2000, Bach was Tony Blair's government spokesman for the Home Office . From November 2000 to June 2001 he was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in Lord Chancellor 's Department . After the 2001 British General Election, he became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defense Procurement in the United Kingdom's Department of Defense in June 2001, assuming one of the most influential positions in the Department of Defense. In this capacity he was the successor to Elizabeth Symons, Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean .

From June 2001 to 2005, Bach was Minister of State for Defense Procurement . During Bach's tenure, the British government made a decision between the Boeing X-32 and the Lockheed X-35 for the Joint Strike Fighter project. In his capacity as Minister of State, Bach was present at the announcement by the US Department of Defense that the decision in favor of the Lockheed Martin fighter aircraft had been made, also to emphasize the special role Great Britain had in the implementation of the project . After the general election in 2005 in May 2005, Paul Drayson succeeded him in the Department of Defense. He was government spokesman for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform from 2007 to 2008, for Justice from 2007 to 2010, for the Treasury from 2007 to 2008, and for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2008 . From 2008 to 2010 he was Philip Hunt's successor , then Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice under Justice Minister Jack Straw . Since 2010 he has been the opposition spokesman for justice.
