William Carl Buchan (born December 23, 1956 in Seattle ) is a former American sailor .

successes

William Carl Buchan took part in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the Flying Dutchman boat class . Together with Jonathan McKee he was Olympic champion ahead of Evert Bastet and Terry McLaughlin as well as Peter Allam and Jonathan Richards . Thanks to a total score of 19.7 points, they received the gold medal. The year before they had become world champions together in Cagliari . In 1978 Buchan also won the bronze medal in Manzanillo in the Finn boat class . Buchan also sailed with his father William Earl Buchan , with whom he first secured bronze in the star boat at the 1983 World Championships . In 1992 they won the title in San Francisco . He won the America's Cup in 1988 with Stars & Stripes .

Buchan graduated from the University of Washington .
