Strehl took part in several important Viennese world premieres of operettas, which were very successful at the time, by various composers of the “silver operetta era”. Portraits, postcards and theater photographs show Strehl as a tall, slim, dark-haired man; he embodied the role type of the operetta bon vivant . Strehl is said to have received the award "Kammersänger".

On January 8, 1910, he sang the role of minstrel Józsi in the world premiere of the operetta Zigeunerliebe at the Vienna Carltheater ; his partners were u. a. Grete Holm (Zorika), Max Rohr (Jonel), Mizzi Zwerenz (Ilona) and Hubert Marischka (Kajetan). In February 1910 several sound recordings were made from the operetta under the direction of the composer Franz Lehár , in which Strehl also recorded the performance song of Józsi "I am a gypsy child".
