Wiltrud Holik

Wiltrud Holik (* 1940 ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

In 1963 she met Josef Holik , her future husband, in Chennai . In 1988 Holik was the women's representative at the German Foreign Ministry in Bonn .

From 1971 to 1974 she lived in Somalia when her husband was the German ambassador in Mogadishu . From September 1, 1995 to September 21, 1999, Wiltrud Holik was accredited by the government in Addis Ababa . During this time, then Federal President Roman Herzog paid a state visit to Ethiopia with Ministers Klaus Kinkel and Carl-Dieter Spranger . From 1999 to 2002 Holik was ambassador to Austria.

The U.S. State Department's human rights report, Human Rights Watch's Africa report, and Amnesty International's country report found during Wiltrud Holik's tenure that people in Ethiopia were suspected of supporting oppositional political movements (especially members of the Oromo - and the Somali people) are at great risk of ill-treatment or arbitrary arrest.

Holik stated in their reports that there are no problems for members of the Oromo people as long as they are not terrorists .
