Josef Holik
Josef Holik (born April 20, 1931 in Tetschen , Czechoslovakia ) is a former German diplomat .
family
His grandfather was the farmer Josef Luksch (1866–1936), a member of the Moravian Landtag (1894), the Reichrat (1900) and a senator in Prague (1920–1935). His father was Josef Holik, who had a doctorate in agriculture, who died in 1973. In 1945 the Holik family was expelled from South Moravia . Josef Holik senior worked in the sugar industry in southern Germany.
Life
Holik made in 1950 in Uffenheim his high school . He studied law , administrative law and political science at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer and - with a scholarship from the US State Department - three semesters at Colgate University . In 1960, Holik was awarded a doctorate degree at the University of Würzburg on the subject of the influence of political forces on the development of the American constitutional jurisdiction. jur. PhD.
In 1961 Holik entered the foreign service. He was an attaché at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Moscow. In 1963 Holik was consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Madras and met his future wife and colleague Wiltrud Holik . He also worked at the Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to NATO in Brussels and from 1971 to 1974 Ambassador to Somalia . After working in the Foreign Office , from 1984 to 1987 he headed the German delegation which negotiated troop reductions in Europe ( MBFR ).
From 1987 to 1995, Holik was the German government's representative for disarmament and arms control issues.
In retirement he was involved in a number of bodies, including as a member of the UN Secretary-General's Disarmament Advisory Council and, until 2003, in the Bonn International Center for Conversion . From 1996 to 2001 he chaired the Saint Barbara Foundation for landmine clearance.
