Wine Country is an American comedy film directed by Amy Poehler . It's about a group of middle-aged friends who go on a wine tasting tripin Wine Country , California. The film was released in selected cinemas on May 8, 2019 and was released digitally on Netflix two days later.

Abby decides to celebrate her friend Rebecca's 50th birthday with a weekend getaway in Napa . Despite their efforts to organize a small, informal celebration, Abby invites her and Rebecca's four long-time friends, both of whom have known since they all served together in a pizzeria .

On March 20, 2018, it was announced that Netflix had given the go-ahead for a comedy film called Wine Country . It was also reported that Amy Poehler would make her directing debut with this film and also act as executive producer alongside Carla Hacken and Morgan Sackett. The film is written by Emily Spivey and Liz Cackowski and Dunshire Productions, Paper Kite Production and Paper Pictures were involved in the film.

Assignment of roles

The film's official announcement confirmed Poehler and Spivey as the leading actors, alongside Rachel Dratch , Ana Gasteyer , Paula Pell, Maya Rudolph , and Tina Fey . In March 2018, Maya Erskine, Jason Schwartzman and Cherry Jones were also announced as actors.

Filming

Filming began in Los Angeles on March 22, 2018 and also took place in Napa , California. Later, in May, the film was also shot in Calistoga . The official end of the shooting was at the beginning of June 2018.
